Genealogy Research

The indexes for birth, death and marriage records dated prior to January 1, 1916 may be viewed by the general public. Copies of birth records on file for at least 75 years and death records on file for at least 20 years are available for purchase. Applications for Marriage License on file for at least 50 years are available for purchase.

In Will County, the recording of birth and death records began in December, 1877. Marriage licenses started to be recorded in July 1836. However this does not imply that all records were recorded.

The clerk’s office recommends you not use VitalChek for your genealogical research due to the additional fees required and the possibility the record is not available.
