Where and when can I register to vote?


You may register to vote in person:

  • at the Will County Clerk’s Office, 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet (815) 740-4620
  • at a Secretary of State Driver’s License Facility while applying for or updating your Driver’s License or State ID card
  • with a deputy registrar or civic registrar or union registrar duly appointed by the county clerk

You may register to vote by mail:

Under federal law, citizens may apply to register to vote by mailing in an Illinois Voter Registration Application. The mail-in form must be postmarked by the last day to register to vote before an election.

Please note: You must provide sufficient proof of identity when registering by mail. (For more details, refer to Important Information section of the Illinois Voter Registration Application). If you do not provide adequate proof of identity, you will be notified by the County Clerk that your registration is not complete and you will be ineligible to vote until you provide the required proof of identity.

 When can I register to vote?

Registration is open throughout the year except during the 27 days preceding an election. Registration reopens the second day following an election. However, if you missed the registration deadline prior to an election, you may be eligible for Grace Period registration.
