Tax Extension

The Tax Extension Department of the Will County Clerk’s Office accepts filings of budgets, levies, bonds, boundary changes and other financial reports as mandated by the Illinois Property Tax Code.  Taxing districts file their annual budgets and levies and request the amount of money needed to operate and to be raised from taxation (property taxes).

Property tax is a major source of tax revenue for local taxing districts. It helps to fund most of the services that local governments provide. Other sources of revenue include state aid and/or federal funding. Whether by paying a tax or by receiving the benefits that are paid by property taxes, everyone is affected in one way or another by the property tax burden. Each year individual taxing districts determine how much revenue they will need from property taxes and then they certify their annual levies to the County Clerk in December of each year.

You will find contact information for all the taxing districts that filed a levy with the County Clerk this year in the Will County Directory.
