Precinct Committeeperson

Precinct committeepersons can help shape the policies of their political parties by participating in their township and/or countywide political organizations. They are elected to two-year terms during even-year primary elections.

A precinct committeeperson:

  • Can become a deputy registrar and register all qualified constituents to vote.
  • Appoints and fills vacancies for Election Judges for the precinct Polling Places.
  • Provides information about candidates and elections to voters.
  • May circulate nominating petitions for candidates prior to the primary election.
  • Communicates voter concerns to local elected officials and legislators.
