County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry:  First day for candidates to circulate nominating petitions is Sept. 3

JOLIET – Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry announces that the first day for candidates to begin circulating nominating petitions for the 2020 General Primary Election is Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Starting on Sept. 3, candidates who plan to run for countywide offices, for Will County Board, or for precinct committeemen in 2020 may pick up petition packets at the Will County Clerk’s office, at 302 N. Chicago St., in downtown Joliet.

They also may obtain petition packets online by visiting thewillcountyclerk.com starting on Sept. 3.

Petition packets will not be available in the clerk’s office or online until Sept. 3. The clerk’s office also will release the number of signatures required on nominating petitions on Sept. 3.

The first day to begin filing nominating petitions with the Will County Clerk’s Office is Monday, November 25. Petitions may be filed with the clerk’s office on business days through 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 2.

“I am excited to kick off what is certain to be a robust election in 2020,” Staley Ferry said. “My elections team has been hard at work preparing to provide candidates the materials they need to get their names on the ballot.”

The circulation and filing dates were released by the Illinois State Board of Elections in a “2020 Candidate’s Guide” that was posted online on Wednesday. To obtain a copy of the guide, visit www.election.il.gov.
